Upon completion, participant will be able to identify opioid-related conditions that may accompany long-term opioid therapy, including chronic or subacute problematic opioid use (CPOD/SPOD) and opioid use disorder (OUD).
Upon completion, participant will be able to formulate management strategies for patients with chronic pain and coexisting opioid-related conditions, including those with active or remitted OUD.
Upon completion, participant will be able to explain the pharmacologic principles and clinical considerations for prescribing buprenorphine, methadone, and other medications in the perioperative care of patients with OUD.
Upon completion, participant will be able to discuss the pharmacology and emerging evidence supporting the use of novel analgesics such as Nav1.8 sodium channel blockers (e.g., suzetrigine) and orexin receptor antagonists.
Upon completion, participant will be able to evaluate clinical scenarios in which prescribing novel analgesics may be appropriate, considering patient characteristics, therapeutic goals, and regulatory guidance.
