Introduction:

Guidelines for prescribing opioids recommend a myriad of efforts to ensure safe and appropriate care.^1,2 Patient-provider agreements (PPA) detail these practices for patients and clinicians aligning expectations and patient care.

Tracking annual patient-provider agreement (PPA) completion and chronic opioid treatment (COT) across a large integrated health system is challenging and little is published on these important efforts. This study illustrates the longitudinal impact of stewardship tactics on prescribing rates and PPA completion.
