Psychiatric patients often suffer from concurrent chronic pain, involving related biological pathways and affecting cognitive status. Psychiatric conditions may exacerbate pain impression, yet training infrequently addresses the biopsychosocial components of pain. Chronic pain is increasingly requiring interdepartmental collaboration, particularly when substance use is apparent. To enhance transparency and referrals, a tiered consult process was created. This QI project evaluates psychiatric providers’ understanding and attitudes toward pain, and the effect of the consult tool on care.
