Introduction: Virtual reality (VR) technology has been increasingly used in treating acute and chronic pain. It does so through immersive distraction, relaxation, and behavioral training. Evidence supports its effectiveness in chronic low back pain, fibromyalgia, sickle cell disease, and phantom limb pain, as well as in procedures. VR use has been successful in pediatric and palliative care. As a nonpharmacologic and scalable method, it can reach diverse patient populations, improving care and its accessibility.
