Pneumocephalus following a CESI refers to the presence of air within the intracranial compartment as a complication after the procedure. This occurs when air is inadvertently introduced into the subarachnoid or subdural space, typically due to dural puncture during needle placement, especially when the loss-of-resistance is used to identify the epidural space. The air can then ascend cranially, resulting in intracranial air accumulation.
