Kratom is a plant with opioid agonist properties up to 13 times the potency of morphine and potential for physiologic dependence [1]. Withdrawal symptoms include myalgias, insomnia, anxiety, and gastrointestinal distress [2]. Its prevalence of use has increased in the United States, raising significant public health concerns [3]. Several case reports have discussed the use of buprenorphine-naloxone, methadone, or clonidine in mitigating withdrawal symptoms [2-3]. This report describes successful management of kratom withdrawal with methadone.
