Chronic pain frequently co-occurs with mental health challenges such as depression and anxiety, and effective treatment of each condition is difficult without addressing the other. Access to mental health care is also a barrier. As older adults—who are disproportionately affected by chronic pain—are increasingly using technology, digital interventions present an opportunity to expand access. Phone-based applications are gaining popularity for mental health support; however, few are specifically designed for older adults or comorbid chronic pain.
